Growing Organic Food: Why You Should Start Now!
Every day we are exposed to a more toxins and harmful chemicals than we like to think about, and beacuse of that growing organic food is becoming more and more important by the day. We need to explore all possible ways to avoid as many as we can of the chemicals mixing in our bodies to a detrimental cocktail.
When non organic food is produced it is regularly sprayed with toxins. This is to protect it from various plant diseases caused by micro organisms, fungi and bugs. These pests can instead be battled through applying organic garden pest control, but in conventional farming this is considered inefficient.
However, the harmful chemicals used are not only harmful to the living entities making out the pests, but also to many other living things, including humans.
The toxins reach our bodies in various ways. To some extent they remain in the plants that are sprayed, which means you actually eat them when you eat the food (yummy!). Unfortunately, the chemicals also trickle down into the ground water. And we use water to drink, when we cook and maybe we water our own crops with it. If the farmers spray their crops when it is even slightly windy, the chemicals will also spread through the air.
Depression, cancer and hyperactivity are some of the effects all these chemicals might have on the human body. As I’m sure most people are aware they also threaten the wildlife of our planet, slowly diminishing the number of individuals and species. All this makes it an easy decision to avoid the chemicals whenever you can.
Once knowing all these facts, growing organic food seems like quite an idea, right?
It is not a difficult task to grow your own food, but you do need to be willing to acquire some of the basic knowledge in order to get it right. It is so discouraging to fail becuase you didn’t bother to learn. It also helps if you think it is an enjoyable task to work in your garden.
Take all the help you can get, and encourage your children if they show even the slightest interest. They don’t need to be a part of everything you do in the garden, but perhaps they can do the sowing (usually quite popular), and water once in a while, which can be quite fun if you also water mom or dad, or even better, your little brother or sister!
It is well worth it to put some effort into your gardening, as you will be able to present your family with the freshest and healthiest food ever, all coming from your own backyard and produced by the most engaged and concerned person in the world – you!
